Yoni Steaming: The whats, the whys, and the wherefores

Yoni steaming, also known as vaginal steaming, is a traditional practice that involves sitting over a steaming pot of herbs to cleanse, rebalance, and rejuvenate the vaginal area.

Proponents of yoni steaming claim that the practice can help with a variety of issues, including menstrual cramps, irregular periods, and vaginal dryness. It is also believed to help with emotional and spiritual well-being.

The practice of yoni steaming involves sitting or squatting over a steaming pot of herbs, such as mugwort, wormwood, and basil. The heat and steam from the herbs are believed to open up the pores and allow the herbs to penetrate the skin of these receptive mucous membranes, providing a soothing and healing effect.

It is important to note that while yoni steaming may have benefits, it is not a substitute for medical treatment. If you have any concerns about your vaginal health, it is important to consult a specialist. Additionally, it is not recommended if you are pregnant or are within six weeks postpartum.

To perform yoni steaming at home, you will need very few resources, all of which can be sourced from your own home. The bare minimum requirements call for a large bowl, a pot of water, a selection of herbs, a trivet, a cushion for your knees, and a long skirt or towel to trap the steam. You can find yoni steaming blends at many health food stores, or you can make your own blend using herbs such as rose petals, calendula, and chamomile - but this should only be done using a specific recipe from a specialist herbalist.

Fill the pot with water and bring it to a boil. Add the herbs to the water and let them steep for a few minutes. Once the water has cooled enough to be comfortably sat on, find a comfortable place to sit or squat over the steaming pot.

It is recommended to do the steaming for 20-30 minutes, covering the area with the skirt or towel in order to trap the steam. After the steaming session, it is recommended to rest and not to engage in any physical activity or sexual intercourse.

In conclusion, Yoni steaming is a traditional practice that is believed to have many benefits for the vaginal area. To download your very own step-by-step guide to Yoni Steaming, along with full instructions for performing a Castor Oil Compress and DIY self-womb massage, click here!

    Nyssa Craig

Hi friend, thanks so much for hopping on over here for a wee squizz at my many musings!

I'm Nyssa, a Brighton-based and Scottish-born massage therapist, placenta remedies specialist, birth support worker (full-spectrum doula), and fertility specialist.

I specialise in providing services to those often underserved by existing practitioners - particularly those who have felt excluded from mainstream service providers for ANY reason, such as weight, sexuality, gender identity, disability, neuroatypical processing, et cetera.
This blog is somewhere you can find my rants on all the above topics (and so much more - love a good rant, me!), as well as more information on my areas of specialism, given the frequent lack of discussion thereon.

So have a browse, and drop me a comment to let me know your own thoughts!
