Cycle Awareness: Nurturing Connection with Nature's Rhythms

In our bustling lives, often dictated by calendars and deadlines, we can easily lose touch with the natural rhythms that govern not only the world around us but also our very beings. Amidst this chaos, there lies a serene wisdom in embracing the cyclical nature of existence. This wisdom, when applied to our own lives, can lead to profound insights and a deeper connection with ourselves and the world we inhabit.

Cycle awareness is not a new concept; it has been revered in various cultures and spiritual traditions for centuries. From the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda to the teachings of indigenous peoples, the importance of attuning ourselves to the natural cycles of life is consistently emphasized. At its core, cycle awareness invites us to recognise and honour the ebbs and flows inherent in all aspects of existence, from the changing seasons to the rhythms of our own bodies.
One of the most fundamental cycles we experience is that of the menstrual cycle. Although historically shrouded in taboo and stigma, the menstrual cycle holds invaluable wisdom for those who are willing to listen. Far from being a mere inconvenience, it is a sacred rhythm that reflects the intricate dance of hormones and energies within the body.

By embracing cycle awareness, individuals can learn to decipher the language of their bodies and cultivate a deeper sense of self-awareness. Rather than viewing menstruation as a monthly inconvenience, it can be reframed as a time of introspection and renewal. Just as the moon waxes and wanes, so too do our energies fluctuate throughout the menstrual cycle. By honouring these fluctuations and adjusting our activities accordingly, we can harness the power of each phase to enhance our productivity, creativity, and overall well-being.
Moreover, cycle awareness extends beyond the realm of the menstrual cycle to encompass broader patterns of nature. The changing seasons, for example, offer valuable lessons in impermanence and renewal. Just as the earth lies dormant in winter before springing forth with new life, so too do we experience periods of rest and rejuvenation before embarking on new beginnings.

In a world that often prioritises productivity and efficiency above all else, cycle awareness serves as a gentle reminder to slow down and listen to the whispers of our own souls. It invites us to step off the treadmill of constant busyness and reconnect with the natural world that sustains us. In doing so, we may find a profound sense of peace and harmony that transcends the chaos of modern life.
Practical Tips for Cultivating Cycle Awareness:
  • Keep a Menstrual Diary: By tracking your menstrual cycle, you can gain valuable insights into your body's rhythms and patterns. Pay attention to any physical or emotional changes you experience throughout the month, and note how they correlate with different phases of your cycle. • Honour Your Energy Levels: Learn to listen to your body and honour its need for rest and rejuvenation. Rather than pushing yourself to the point of exhaustion, give yourself permission to take breaks and recharge when needed.
  • Spend Time in Nature: Take regular walks in nature and observe the changing seasons. Allow yourself to be fully present in the moment, and take note of the subtle shifts in the natural world around you.
  • Practice Mindfulness and Meditation: Cultivate a daily mindfulness or meditation practice to help you tune into your inner rhythms. Use this time to quiet the mind, connect with your breath, and cultivate a sense of inner peace.
  • Celebrate the Seasons: Honour the changing seasons with rituals and ceremonies that reflect their unique energies. Whether it's a simple meditation or a more elaborate ceremony, find ways to mark the passing of time and connect with the cycles of nature.

In essence, cycle awareness is a journey of self-discovery and self-care. By embracing the natural rhythms of life, we can cultivate a deeper sense of connection with ourselves, each other, and the world we inhabit. So let us honour the cycles that govern our existence and embrace the wisdom they have to offer.

    Nyssa Craig

Hi friend, thanks so much for hopping on over here for a wee squizz at my many musings!

I'm Nyssa, a Brighton-based and Scottish-born massage therapist, placenta remedies specialist, birth support worker (full-spectrum doula), and fertility specialist.

I specialise in providing services to those often underserved by existing practitioners - particularly those who have felt excluded from mainstream service providers for ANY reason, such as weight, sexuality, gender identity, disability, neuroatypical processing, et cetera.
This blog is somewhere you can find my rants on all the above topics (and so much more - love a good rant, me!), as well as more information on my areas of specialism, given the frequent lack of discussion thereon.

So have a browse, and drop me a comment to let me know your own thoughts!
