My Doula Story

I’m a Scottish Conscious Birthing Doula and Holistic Therapist from the far reaches of Aberdeenshire, living and working in sunny Brighton in East Sussex! I found my way down south via the conduit of academia, working as a medical and physics researcher. After a life-changing and almost devastating period of illness, I felt the necessity of aligning my professional life with my internal state, and followed my passion into the world of holistic fertility care.
Working as an academic for so many years stood me in great stead by giving me the tools to be able to investigate and fully understand the human body from an holistic perspective, in order to be able to bring myself back to full health; and it’s this wisdom that I bring to the families I support in my role as their Doula.
I trained under Kate Woods’ “Conscious Birthing” programme with Samsara Tanner, and had the most wonderful induction into the birthing world!
My motivation is always to learn more, and assimilate that information to be the best help I can be to the families I work with. To that end, I am a great believer in continuing professional development; updating my skills and knowledge-base to be apprised of the most up-to-date information, data, and techniques available, so that I can be the best possible resource for my clients.
The philosophy by which I understand birth is through the lens of empowerment. I feel society as a whole draws so much from us, and never is this more true than when birth-givers are at their most vulnerable. I want everyone to feel empowered in empirical knowledge and trust of themselves to be able to advocate for the birth that they truly want and need, whatever that looks like.
My many and varied roles have drawn upon and augmented my skills in caring and stewardship, professionalism, confidentiality, commitment, kindness, understanding, empathy, enthusiasm, communication, and have instilled a strong sense of responsibility. This foundation allows me to always focus my clients at the epicentre of their birthing journey; building the experience that they desire together.

That's all very nice...but what on earth is a Doula, and why would I want one!?
Ok, I'm interested! What do you offer in terms of services as a Doula?
