Therapeutic Scar Massage for ​Relief from Scar Tissue
What is this treatment?
This treatment is a focused and gentle approach to managing the physical and emotional impact of scar tissue resulting from injuries, surgeries, or burns. Scar tissue, though a natural part of the healing process, can often become tight, restrictive, sensitive, or painful, affecting both movement and appearance.
Therapeutic Scar Massage works to remodel the collagen fibres within the scar, improving its mobility, pliability, and overall health. We use a variety of light, specific techniques, including stretching, sustained pressure, and myofascial release, to encourage the scar to become softer, flatter, and more integrated with the surrounding skin and deeper tissues.
What can you expect?
This is a highly collaborative and sensitive treatment, always respecting your comfort level and the history associated with the scar. Our goal is to decrease discomfort, reduce visible texture, and restore normal function to the affected area.
Your first session will include a detailed consultation to understand the origin, age, and nature of the scar, as well as any symptoms you are currently experiencing. We will also discuss your general health and treatment goals.
The massage itself is usually performed with you lying comfortably on the massage table. Depending on the location of the scar, only the immediate area will need to be uncovered. You will be kept fully draped with large towels and blankets for modesty and warmth throughout the session.
The techniques are typically slow, sustained, and very light - it should not be painful. I work exclusively with high-quality vegan media, equipment, and tools, and may utilise a variety of these throughout the course of treatment. These may include:
As with all my treatments, I adhere to a stringent cleaning and sterilisation protocol between every client, including the laundering of all linens at 90°C and comprehensive anti-bacterial wipe-down of the treatment space.
